About Abaayo Doula - Warda Warsame
My name is Warda Warsame, and I’m the founder of Abaayo Doula, a heart-led doula service rooted in care, connection, and community. In Somali, “Abaayo” means sister, and that’s exactly how I show up: with love, softness, and steady presence for the families I walk beside.
I’m based in the Greater Toronto Area, where I live with my husband and our two sons. Motherhood transformed me, not only in the way I love, but in how I hold space for others. Becoming a doula felt like a natural continuation of the work I’ve always done: supporting people with care, dignity, and deep listening.
I come to this work with over a decade of experience in community development, newcomer services, and gender equity. I’ve spent years advocating for racialized and marginalized communities across Canada, helping people navigate complex systems with compassion and culturally-anchored support.
I hold a Master’s degree in Humanities and a Bachelor’s degree in English. I’m trained in trauma-informed care, adult education, and now, birth and postpartum support from DONA International. Every part of my journey has led me here, to holding space in the most sacred of transitions: birth, healing, and new life.
My approach as a doula is:
•Compassionate: I show up fully, with no judgment — just love.
•Culturally affirming: I honour your identity, birth goals, traditions, and choices.
•Informed & calm: I offer grounded, evidence-based support without overwhelm.
•Whole-person focused: You are not just giving birth to a baby — you’re becoming something new too.
Whether you’re preparing for birth, healing postpartum, or somewhere in between, I’m here to walk with you. Always, abaayo-style.
